Guide to Foam Rolling

Foam rollers

Exciting news for our Eagle Rock Yacht Club crew – this season’s MVP isn’t a player, but a foam roller! This isn’t just any roller; it’s your personal recovery wizard, ready to soothe those dodgeball battles scars and get you back in the game faster. But before you leap into action, we’ve snagged an excellent guide from REI to make sure you’re rolling like a pro. Stretching before and after our games is key to maintaining peak performance and dodging unwanted injuries, but let’s keep it light with a few foam roller ‘pro tips’: While it’s a champion at muscle recovery, it sadly won’t help you float at the pool. And despite its resemblance to your favorite oversized snack, it’s not edible. Check out the full article here for all the rolling techniques you never knew you needed. Here’s to keeping the game fun, your body flexible, and your spirits high. Let’s embrace the roll – in all the right ways!

A Shirt Story

Think your Season of the Dog shirt is pretty pawesome?  Take a quick peek at how the shirts came to be.

Start with art.  The shirt artwork was generously contributed by friend of the club Jason Keam.  A Long Beach native, Jason is an illustrator, animator and a dog enthusiast, obvsly.

Jason Keam’s Neopolitan Dogs: Mural Painting

With the design done, our good pals at Let’s Print LA were up next. Operating right here in Highland Park under the direction of long-time Yacht Club collaborator Rene Perez, these screen printing pros are on top of their game.

End results:  best in show.

The Wheel gets around…

Each Yacht Club season ends with one team hoisting their league’s Captain’s Wheel.  Then, like the Stanley Cup, each player is entitled to their alone time with The Wheel.  Over the years, The Wheel has been a lot of places and seen a lot of things, some it would like to forget.

Our winter winners seem to be doing a particularly good job of living their best Wheel life.

Here are Pamela from NoHo, Katie from Highland Park and Danielle from the Venice doing it right.

Where will you take The Wheel?

Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.
Cursed no more, The Wheel goes to Wrigley Field
Nailed it.
